The Gen. John Crawford Vaughn Camp 2089 is located in Etowah, Tennessee, but we
serve the entire tri-state area as re-enactors and living history
demonstrators. We participate in local parades, we present history
talks, lectures, and we conduct period correct military-style graveside
memorial services and ceremonies. We
General John C. Vaughn
endeavour to uphold and
fulfill the sacred charge given to the Sons of Confederate Veterans (
SCV)
by Confederate Gen. Stephen Dill Lee at the 1906 New Orleans United
Confederate Veterans (UCV) Reunion. The SCV was created by the men
of the UCV for their sons, nephews, grandsons, and great-grandsons just
10 years previously at the 1896 Richmond UCV Reunion. Gen. Lee's
charge says, "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the
vindication of the cause for which we fought; to your strength will be
given the defence of the Confederate soldier's good name, the
guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the
perpetuation of those principles he loved, and which made him glorious,
and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that
the true history of the South is presented to future generations."
As a Camp of the international organisation styled the Sons of
Confederate Veterans, we take this charge, and our organisational
purposes as stated in our governing documents, and the obligations they
entail, very seriously. But we do so in a spirit of good humour,
fun, and fellowship with likeminded men of Confederate ancestry as we
seek to carry out the intent of Gen. Lee, namely, vindicating honourably
the cause that the Confederate soldier sacrificed his all to see established, protecting the
good name of our veterans, guarding his true history, and sincerely
learning his motives so as to personally and corporately emulate his
virtues, and to honestly strive to perpetuate those principles of civil
government, religious faith, and personal morality which he loved and
which defined him to the whole world as unquestionably the best fighting
men ever seen. We labour to see to it that the real history of the
South and its people is rightly presented to present and future
generations. This is why we exist. It is a tall order to
carry out such responsibilities but we feel that Gen. Lee's trust was
not misplaced. We do accept and seek to fulfill his expectations that we'd do
all that is humanly possible to tell the truth about their struggle for
constitutional government, rule by law, and self-determination. We
invite anyone having a Confederate forebear to join with us. Our
members are always ready to assist those needing help

in tracking down
their ancestor. You are invited to attend any of our Camp
functions, where you'll be cordially welcomed. Chivalry still
lives in the SCV where Southern gentlemen still believe that a man's
word is his bond."
